In many cases, decongestant nasal sprays or tablets may relieve symptoms. Occasionally, myringotomy may be necessary if there is bleeding behind the eardrum. If a perforation occurs, surgical repair with a tympanoplasty may occasionally be required, but this is uncommon. It usually heals spontaneously.
