Lingual Tonsillectomy

In some patients, the lingual tonsils (tonsils on the back of the tongue) may be enlarged. This can contribute to obstructive sleep apnea by blocking breathing during sleep. In a lingual tonsillectomy, the lingual tonsils are removed to enlarge the airway behind the tongue.
