Screenings and Evaluations for Hearing Loss

Our comprehensive hearing tests and assessments incorporate the latest medical advances and technological tools to determine the type and degree of hearing loss you may have. This allows our team to design a treatment plan based on your lifestyle needs and goals. Our services also include tailored fittings for hearing aids and cochlear implants.

In tandem with comprehensive diagnostic testing, our team provides evaluations throughout your treatment journey to help determine the type of device you need and calibrate the proper fit and function of our hearing aids and cochlear implants. Our screenings and evaluations include the following:

  • Advanced hearing device evaluation – evaluates lifestyle needs, communication goals and challenges; provides education on the best treatment options according to the type and degree of hearing loss
  • Speech-in-noise testing – evaluates the ability to understand speech in a noisy background
  • Speech perception testing – evaluates the ability to understand speech in different listening environments, while wearing hearing technology
  • Vestibular assessment – tests the portion of the inner ear responsible for balance

How We Treat Adult Hearing Loss

Our treatment options for hearing loss include a wide range of the most advanced hearing aid devices, osseointegrated devices, cochlear implant devices and assistive listening accessories. Our multidisciplinary team of specialists works in close collaboration to design a comprehensive and individualized treatment strategy for each patient.

Hearing Aids

Hearing aids can be a helpful tool for people experiencing hearing loss. While these electronic devices cannot restore hearing that has been permanently lost, they can help individuals improve their ability to communicate and participate in various settings. Hearing aids can be worn inside or behind the ears and do not require surgery.

We offer a variety of hearing aid models and styles to fit your lifestyle and budget. These include the latest innovations in hearing aid technology and accessories, such as:

  • Assistive listening devices
  • Daily wear technology
  • Extended wear technology
  • Musician’s earplugs
  • Noise protection
  • Osseointegrated (bone conduction) technology

As part of our patient-centered approach to care, our team continuously works with you to ensure that your hearing aids fit well and provide an improvement in your overall quality of life.

Your customized treatment plan includes a tailored evaluation, patient- and family-centered fitting session, education and orientation with our specialists about your device and access to communication strategies classes. A trial period is always provided to determine if your device meets your lifestyle needs and goals.

Purchasing a hearing aid through Keck Medicine of USC helps to:

  • Support the hearing health and treatment of a child who would not otherwise be able to afford it
  • Support research aimed at finding a cure for hearing loss

Cochlear Implants

Cochlear implants can be an option for people with complete or partial hearing loss who are not receiving adequate benefit from hearing aids. A cochlear implant consists of two components: one portion that sits behind the ear and another portion that is surgically implanted under the skin. These devices do not restore normal hearing, but they can help provide improved access to speech and environmental sounds.

Our team provides comprehensive, evidence-based care that includes a full range of services geared to help you before and after cochlear implant surgery. Our cochlear implant treatment plans and follow-up care include presurgical counseling, comprehensive testing to assess candidacy, education about device options, activation and mapping appointments, access to rehabilitation services and long-term auditory management with our team.
