Right now, you’re watching a person’s lips, tongue, and other speech organs work together to produce the art of beatboxing. These videos were recorded using real-time MRI, a cutting-edge technology used at USC. Videos like these help scientists discover how the human mind works.

Description: This test helps assess for difficulties with phonation. An MRI is performed while the subject is speaking or singing. We use special software during the imaging process to collect dynamic images of the oral cavity, tongue, oropharynx and supraglottis. This permits an assessment of how these tissues are working during vocalization.
