Mid-facelift surgery elevates the upper cheeks of the face and can help achieve a youthful and attractive appearance. As we age, the fatty tissue that drapes over the cheekbones begins to droop and sag. The result is less prominent cheekbones and what appears as a deep fold of skin and fat between the nose and cheek (nasolabial fold). This cheek fat alters the appearance of the lower cheek and jawline, resulting in what patients call “jowls.”

A mid-facelift is different from a facelift and is often performed in combination with other procedures, most commonly a necklift. Implants may be placed through incisions in the mouth to add volume to the cheeks. Fat may also be transplanted from the abdomen or thighs to add volume that is lost with age.

Who is a candidate for mid-facelift surgery?

Mid-facelift surgery is appropriate for healthy men and women seeking to improve the contour of the face and neck. Our surgeons deliver a natural, healthy and rejuvenated look, as opposed to an unnatural, operated-upon appearance.

Facelifting does not stop the aging process, but it does make patients of all ages look younger and rejuvenated. The best candidates for mid-facelift surgery are those patients who are relatively healthy, do not smoke and have realistic expectations.

What is the recovery like from mid-facelift surgery?

Mid-facelift surgery is performed in an outpatient setting, with most patients returning home within a few hours after surgery. Moderate sedation or general anesthesia is used, depending on a patient’s preference. Small incisions are hidden within the hairline, behind the ear and in the mouth. The facial soft tissue is carefully “lifted” and moved to a more youthful position. Excess soft tissue and skin may be removed to improve the definition of the neck and jawline, restoring a youthful facial contour.

Mid-facelift surgery results are seen in three to four months. Patients may return to work and non-strenuous activities within two weeks. Mild bruising, swelling or discomfort is common the first few days after surgery. Most patients feel confident returning to their public and social lives in 10-14 days.

Our experienced surgeons reduce bruising and recovery time with the application of state-of-the-art techniques. Detailed post-operative and aftercare instructions will be provided to each patient.
